Wanted is one of my favorite comics. I’m glad it’s being made into a movie, I’m just worried that they will royally screw it up because the previews show nothing of the story line and just seems to be a movie starring 2 (maybe 3) characters from the book.

I loved the idea of having a world run by Super Villains with no consequences to what you do. I thought Wanted had a great raw quality to it that you don’t see in a lot of ’super-hero’ comics. However, it could have used better writing. After I heard the main character say ‘Fuck You’ a billion times over, I just lost all hope for the character ever gaining any intelligent speech. I guess I was expecting this to be a dysfunctional coming-of-age story, which by the end it seemed to be, but then it finishes with a gigantic ugly splash of his face saying “This is my face while I’m fucking you in the ass” and all I could picture is a 14 year old going, “hell yeah.” Not the way I was expecting the book to end.

So, major ups on the raw, biting villainous power displayed throughout it – but the lead needs to learn a few better words than fuck fuck fuck. I don’t know – maybe retaining a 14 year old vocabulary was one of the underlying themes of the story that I missed out on.

@ Shua – I agree about the movie. I doubt the it will follow the book too strongly. Judging by the trailers I’ve seen it seems like they switched it around and the “assassins” are actually good guys – or at least working to keep everyone else alive, which is just lame. The part that really stuns me is that, like you said, there seemed to be only 2-3 characters from the book. Considering the book is based around a slew of super villains, the majority of which are non-human or in costume, it’ll be interesting (and I’m sure disappointing) to see what they replace them with.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEE THE MOVIE YET BUT HAVE NOT THEN DON’T READ THIS POST. Seriously I don’t want to ruin anything for you so IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEE THE MOVIE YET BUT HAVE NOT THEN DON’T READ THIS POST.

In my opinion it was the worst comic to movie translation that has ever been done. They could have just changed the name of the characters, named it something else, and I would have never even associated it with Wanted. They only took some very basic ideas and only based a handful of scenes on anything from the comic. As a standalone action movie it was phenomenal… except for the end scene with fox… that was lame. Even the loom only took a small amount of my magic suspension-of-disbelief powder. But everything else made it a pretty kick ass action movie, I just wish it would have been called something else and maybe just put a blurb at the end of the movie “Based on the comic blah blah blah”.
