Solanin – Review

Author: Dr. W | Filed under: Reviews, graphic novel, monthly read

solaninv01ch01019aj4Solanin is about a girl trying to find her place in Tokyo, after college. which turns into somewhat of a “second coming of age” story. She learns about life,  and what it is to be grown-up.

Artwork seems standard for Japanese manga fair. Which means black-and-white, with lots of screen tones. Although there were a few colored pages, in strange sparse spots. One stylistic choice that seemed odd to me, was the main characters eyes. They are set to far apart.  It made her solaninalien looking, and took me out of the story at times. Overall it was an enjoyable story, if not too long, and a little “emo” here and there. I give it 3/5 stars, not great, but decent enough to pick up at the library.

P.S. By the way, they’re already working making the movie.
