While Reading Tintin in The Blue Lotus, I came upon the little gem of wisdom shown above. As I was reading it, I though ” This is great. Tintin is dispelling racism, and bridging cultural gaps. What an open minded thing to do in that era” Until my eye’s landed on the last panel.
These to gentlemen are Japanese. Which of course you could tell just by the background. Oh yeah, and the fact that they are a racist stereotype. Clearly aware of the time frame in which the comic was written, I can understand why Herge would make such a stylistic choice. It just seems funny have such a juxtaposition.
